Mercedes-Benz has announced an expansion of the range of its most elegant convertible, the SL. This time, a new engine will strengthen the range at its entry-level positions.

This new version is called SL 400 and sits one step below the SL 500. Looking back, we can regard this SL 400 as the successor to the previous SL 350.

The SL 400 offers a petrol V6 engine with all the current technology: turbocharging, direct injection, Start&Stop, and so on. However, this 3-litre unit delivers 27 CV more than its predecessor, reaching 333 CV.

Torque, thanks to the supercharging, also increases, and now stands at 480 Nm. Combined with the traditional 7-speed automatic gearbox, this engine has an official average consumption of 7.3 litres per 100 kilometres, meeting the Euro 6 emissions standard.

Although considerably greener than its predecessor, the SL 400 offers first-class performance, with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration that requires just 5.2 seconds, reaching an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Otherwise, the SL 400 is a full member of the SL range, so we are dealing with an extremely luxurious vehicle, especially focused on driving enjoyment. An interior finished with fine materials such as wood, leather and metal rounds off a package that has hardly any rivals on the market.

The SL 400 will reach dealerships in the coming weeks, with a price that will be around €100,000 in our country.
