The Clase S from Mercedes-Benz has always been the ultimate benchmark of the star brand since its inception decades ago.
In this new generation, the Germans want to revive the iconic convertible version to make the Clase S the ultimate cabrio.
It has been 40 years since the Clase S had a convertible variant. Its successor, at least in spirit, was the SL, a two-door, 2+2-seat convertible that has always ranked among the top positions for elegance and distinction. Now it seems that for the people at Mercedes this is not enough, and they have decided to bring back the open-top version of the Clase S.
The exterior design of this convertible version will not feature major changes compared to the coupé variant, which already boasts a spectacular design. The main difference will be found, as is obvious, in the upper section, where the roof is replaced by a soft fabric top, forgoing hard-top solutions which, while benefiting rigidity and safety, detract from the image and worsen dynamics by substantially increasing the weight of the assembly.

Inside, the cabrio variant will be similar to the coupé. According to Mercedes, the Clase S Cabrio will be “the most comfortable convertible in the world”, so a cabin with enough space to comfortably accommodate four occupants is expected. The very high level of finishes and materials is maintained, as well as the vehicle’s technological content, on par with the best in the world.
The front seats will feature electric heating, ventilation, massage and adjustment, and will also incorporate a new evolution of the AirScarf system, capable of wrapping the occupant’s neck in a stream of warm air that is more than pleasant on cold days. Mechanically, no variations are expected compared to the coupé range, offering petrol engines with 8 and 12 cylinders.
