Meyers Manx 2.0 EV, the electric

This electric “buggy” is designed to be enjoyed on the beach dunes, but only by those who can afford its price.

The electric mobility sector is seeking to offer low-cost solutions to position itself in the market. But among all of this, there are options that escape this policy, and we find vehicles with an almost prohibitive price, even though there seems to be no excuse to justify that price. The Meyers Manx 2.0 EV is one of those electric vehicles aimed at customers with deep pockets.

This buggy retains the classic image of this type of vehicle. The original classic was mounted on the chassis of a Volkswagen Beetle, but this updated version is entirely new. And the technology it uses is completely up to date.

A pure buggy

As I have already mentioned, its appearance is inspired by those classic buggies, with no doors. It does have a windshield and roof, so the occupants will enjoy some protection. Inside the cabin there is not much to see either. The seats are upholstered in a checked fabric with a vintage style.

In front of the steering wheel there is only the speedometer, and there is nothing else to look for. Sobriety and minimalism are the main selling points of this vehicle. That said, there are seat belts and a roll bar. The roof is made of carbon fibre, a material that is also present in other parts of the car.

The Meyers Manx 2.0 EV comes with a small battery of 20 kWh, although there will be another version with a 40 kWh battery. The engine of the Manx 2.0, the most powerful variant, will offer an output of 202 CV. Considering that the vehicle weighs 680 kg, the fun is guaranteed.

That said, it is an electric car aimed at millionaire drivers who attend the Monterey Car Week and who live on the American coast, in residential developments inhabited by people with healthy bank accounts. The price of the version with the 20 kWh battery is 74,000 dollars, which at the current exchange rate is roughly 68,000 euros.

It will not be sold outside its country of origin, but it is expected to reach the market in 2024. Those who wish to acquire one of these units will have to pay a deposit of 500 dollars to reserve it.
