MG 4 X Power: sporty version with 430 CV

MG, the Chinese brand known for its sporty and premium character, continues to innovate in order to reach a diverse audience in different parts of the world. On this occasion, it presents the MG4 XPower, a modern reinterpretation of the legendary 1962 MGB, a car that made history by paving the way for the brand’s sports vehicles.

The MG4 claimed the title of best-selling electric car in Spain during the month of April and is marking a milestone in the automotive industry. This vehicle, the first premium electric car, stands out for its design, build quality, equipment, advanced safety and connectivity, typical of higher segments. Now, the MG4 will expand its range with the arrival of the MG4 XPower version, a highly sporty version that will be available at dealerships across Europe during the summer of 2023.

This sporty version of the MG4 is currently in the final phase of its tuning process on European roads, having covered more than 25,000 kilometres to date. The main objective is to fine-tune its dynamic behaviour and adapt it to the particularities of European roads and to drivers’ preferences. The brand’s engineers and test drivers are working on optimising the suspension, steering, brakes and engine response. Likewise, numerous charging tests are being carried out in collaboration with more than twenty electric charging providers to ensure full compatibility across Europe.

After passing through cities such as Gothenburg, Oslo, Munich, Amsterdam and Paris, the test team has arrived in Spain to carry out charging and driving tests around Madrid. The country’s geography has been used to run routes at high temperatures and altitudes and see how the vehicle behaves in different conditions, which contributes to a comprehensive evaluation of the car.

More power for the sporty version

The new model has been equipped with two powerful electric motors, one on each axle, delivering a combined maximum output of 320 kW (equivalent to 430 CV). Thanks to its controlled launch system, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, with a range of 400 km. All-wheel drive and the XDS electronic differential lock system guarantee excellent traction. In addition, this model features a “Track” mode designed for use on circuits, in which the electronic aids the brand offers on other models have been removed.

The chassis has been meticulously adapted to accommodate its new and greater power. It incorporates new suspension, 18-inch wheels, tyres and brakes with a sport package that includes a centre axle and calipers. This set is based on the robust Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), which achieves a balanced weight distribution and a low centre of gravity thanks to the central placement of its battery system.

It also features advanced suspension systems, a MacPherson front axle and a sophisticated five-link suspension at the rear. The Bosch-built dual-pinion electric power steering provides precise response and adjusts assistance to the vehicle’s speed in real time, with three configurable modes: Light, Standard and Sport.

The best safety in an electric car

In terms of safety, the MG4 XPower has been rated as a marvel. The entire MG4 range has achieved the maximum five-star rating in the stringent Euro NCAP safety tests, being the first to undergo these tests on a car built on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP).

All versions include the MG Pilot system, a comprehensive package of driver assistance systems designed to provide maximum protection. These aids include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and Fatigue Alert, which come as standard across the entire range. In addition, Intelligent High Beam Control and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist are included as part of an intuitive and complete safety package that guarantees protection for both occupants and other road users.
