MG Motor will launch its new electric S5 SUV in Europe before the summer

MG Motor defines the S5 as a refined electric SUV that comes equipped with the most advanced technology, but above all as a vehicle that you will enjoy driving.

MG Motor unveiled a new compact SUV for the Chinese market in mid-last year, designed to replace the popular ZS in its electric version. Almost a year later, the Chinese manufacturer has finally decided to bring the S5 to Europe as well, starting with the United Kingdom, where it will be launched next April, before reaching other European markets before the end of the second quarter of the year.

At 4.48 metres long, the electric S5 is about 15 centimetres longer than its predecessor, the electric ZS. Its wheelbase is also slightly longer, reaching 2.73 metres. It is also three centimetres wider, but three centimetres lower.

MG Motor will offer three versions of the S5 in the European market. The entry-level version with standard range will feature a 49 kWh battery pack, while the two higher-spec versions with extended range will have a larger battery pack reaching 64 kWh. According to the manufacturer, the WLTP range of the entry-level version will be 340 km, while the other two higher-spec versions with the larger battery pack will be able to travel 480 and 463 km, respectively, on a single charge.

When charging with direct current, the maximum power with the standard battery pack is 120 kW, which will allow the state of charge to increase from 10 to 80 per cent in 24 minutes. In the case of the other two versions with the larger battery pack, the maximum supported power is 139 kW, and in this case 28 minutes are needed to reach 80 per cent charge from 10 per cent.

More details to consider about the technical specifications of the MG S5

It should also be noted that the three versions of the S5 to be sold in Europe use a single electric motor, but while the basic version has a power output of 125 kW, in the other two higher-spec versions it is 170 kW. The top speed is limited to 163 km/h in all three versions, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 8 seconds in the entry-level version and 6.3 seconds in the other two. The MG electric S5 is based on the scalable modular MSP platform of MG itself, the same one used by the MG4 since 2022.

In the United Kingdom the price of the electric MG S5 starts at £28,495, which at the current exchange rate comes to roughly 34,180 euros. For the time being, MG Motor has not confirmed the price of this electric SUV in other European markets, but it should be known shortly before sales begin later in the second quarter of the year.
