Michelin will supply the tyres for the Lilium Jet electric aircraft
Thanks to its years of experience and its leading position in the sector, Michelin has been chosen to equip the new Lilium Jet electric aircraft with its high-technology tyres

In an exciting step towards the future of air mobility, the iconic tyre brand Michelin and Lilium, a pioneer in electric vertical take-off and landing aviation (eVTOL), have joined forces to create a revolutionary solution that redefines the way we travel by air and the safety of these electric concepts, which are nearly ready to take flight.

A strategic alliance
Lilium N.V. and Michelin have announced a strategic collaboration agreement that goes beyond the supply of tyres for the Lilium Jet. This agreement, which has been in development for more than a year, covers design, serial production and technical support, highlighting the determination of both companies to drive innovation in regional air mobility.
The partnership not only underlines the shared vision of leading the transformation towards more environmentally friendly aviation, but also highlights Lilium’s ability to attract the best players in the industry, such as Michelin, to accelerate its certification process.

Pushing the limits
Michelin, with its impressive century-long experience in the aeronautics industry, has developed a solution of tyres tailored to the demanding requirements of weight, safety, reliability and performance of the Lilium Jet. The first tyres, made with Michelin’s innovative composite, will be delivered to Lilium’s facilities this month, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration.
Since weight efficiency is essential for eVTOLs, Michelin’s tyres offer the best weight-to-performance ratio in their class. Designed specifically to enable smooth and safe vertical take-offs and landings, these tyres will allow the Lilium Jet to achieve its maximum performance within strict weight limits.

Future outlook
With the first tyres already on their way to Lilium’s facilities, this exciting chapter in the Michelin-Lilium collaboration paves the way for the future of sustainable air mobility and embodies the shared vision of both companies to lead the transformation towards environmentally responsible solutions in aviation, promising an exciting and sustainable future for high-speed regional transport. The Michelin-Lilium alliance not only redefines the limits of aeronautical efficiency, but also sets a golden standard for strategic collaboration in the aerospace industry.

Statements
Sophie Bréchoire, President of Michelin Group’s aeronautical activities, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating: “MICHELIN tyres designed for the Lilium Jet are entirely new and represent a major advance for this essential aviation component. By introducing new standards of durability, this alliance perfectly illustrates Michelin’s vision and commitments: driving the transformation of aviation towards more environmentally friendly horizons”.
Klaus Roewe, CEO of Lilium, expressed his pride in the joint progress: “We are proud of the innovation and development projects we have worked on with Michelin to reach this agreement. This new essential element, which will contribute to mobility and to operating our jet within the strict performance requirements we have set ourselves, is further proof of our determination to drive sustainable innovation in regional air mobility”.
