MINI Cooker Cabrio: the convertible turns into a "food car", another April Fools' Day joke
To mark April Fool’s Day, MINI has published a special edition of its Cabrio model. The John Cooker turns it into a street food stall.

Can you imagine your car turning into a food stall? MINI can, and this is the result. MINI’s special projects division has come up with an appealing accessory package for April Fool’s Day (the Anglo-Saxon equivalent of April Fools’ Day). Unfortunately, it is a fictional prototype that will never see the light of day, but the brand’s idea is still surprising.
In this fictional model, customers could equip their MINI with the John Cooker pack, which would turn anyone into a street food vendor. This hypothetical model would feature a wooden preparation surface and a food pack. The MINI Cabrio’s boot would house cooling technology to keep the food in good condition. But that’s not all: food waste would be processed by a battery system that sustainably powers the vehicle.

For many a dream, the prototype would comply with the food regulation requirements, and installing it would simply mean folding down the driver’s seat, which would create an astonishing amount of space beneath the wooden surface that could be used to store ingredients and kitchen utensils.
Among the potential customers this surreal model is aimed at would be start-ups specialising in gastronomy. “Street food companies are a great complement to restaurants. However, typical street trucks are often too big and cumbersome to park in the city centre,” says Harry Chinn of MINI Business Innovation.
MINI has taken this joke so far that it has even set a launch price for the John Cooker package of €1,959.
