MINI shows us the Clubman concept

MINI shows us the second body style of this new generation. Still in concept form, this new Clubman presents itself as a model with a more practical focus than the traditional MINI, losing its distinctive door layout but keeping the split tailgate.

MINI continues to gradually develop the range of its third generation. A few weeks ago we met the classic variant, which we will test in a few days. Today it is the turn of the Clubman.

Although it is still presented in concept form, this new MINI model will be the successor to one of the most exclusive MINIs, the Clubman -the 2+1 door version-.

This new Clubman becomes one of the longest MINIs ever built, with an overall length exceeding 4.22 metres. It is, therefore, a model with a clear practical focus, since if there is one thing that can be criticised about the MINI it is its rather limited practicality.

The exterior design is modern, in line with the new generation, but incorporates details that help it stand out from the other models in the range. On this occasion the rear lights feature an elongated, horizontal design, opposite to the traditional one. Other details include the 19″ alloy wheels and the frameless doors, which give it a dynamic and attractive touch.

Speaking of the doors, in this concept the Clubman loses one of the hallmarks of the previous generation. We are referring to its distinctive door layout, which in the model sold so far was arranged as a “2+1”, with two suicide-opening doors on the passenger side and a conventional one on the driver’s side.

What it does retain is the split tailgate opening, with two symmetrical doors in the style of vans, which allow very convenient access to the cargo space.

The interior reveals practically nothing due to its prototype status, but a cabin very similar to the one found in the new MINI generation is expected, that is, a design-focused interior in which the quality and fit have taken a big step forward.

The engines will be the same as those of the conventional MINI, with turbocharged three- and four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, paired with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The production model is expected to be unveiled in October, coinciding with the Paris Motor Show.
