Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: the compact version of the Outlander finally unveiled

Mitsubishi has revealed the look of the Eclipse Cross ahead of its official presentation in Geneva.

Mitsubishi Motors has finally unveiled the image of the new Eclipse Cross, which sits between the ASX and Outlander ranges in terms of size. The Japanese SUV will be presented in its final configuration next week at the Geneva Motor Show.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

This is the first SUV that Mitsubishi has launched since Nissan acquired a majority stake in the company. The Eclipse Cross has a front design quite similar to that of its bigger sibling, the Mitsubishi Outlander. Its headlights are LED and it features the front grille design that characterises the brand’s models. For its part, the rear of the new Mitsubishi crossover has a look that seems to be taken from one of its direct rivals: the Toyota CH-R. The LED rear lights run the full width of the vehicle and split the rear window into two sections, while the upper part of the rear windscreen is angled, adding a touch of sportiness. The example with which Mitsubishi has introduced the Eclipse Cross is red and features several details in that same colour, which emphasises the sporty character of the new SUV.

The Japanese manufacturer has not yet published any images of the interior of this vehicle, although it is known that it will feature a front display, a Mitsubishi Eclipse Crosstablet-like infotainment system and an audio device compatible with Apple CarPlay.

The new compact SUV from Mitsubishi will use a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, linked to a CVT automatic gearbox with an eight-speed manual mode. The Eclipse Cross will also offer a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine specially designed for this model. This version uses an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Mitsubishi states that this model will have all-wheel drive together with an electronic torque-vectoring system.

The Eclipse Cross Mitsubishi Eclipse Crosswill go on sale from 2018 and the first units will arrive in May of the same year.
