The autonomous mobility system that could improve current public transport
The Alliance Renault-Nissan signs an agreement with the transport company Transdev to develop a mobility system with electric and autonomous vehicles.
The Alliance Renault-Nissan and the transport company Transdev have signed a research agreement to develop mobility solutions with electric and autonomous vehicles. These services would focus on public transport and on- demand.
Both companies will collaborate on the design of a comprehensive modular transport system that will have two functions: enabling customers to book trips and allowing operators to run and manage the fleet of autonomous vehicles.
“The collaboration with Transdev allows us to share our expertise as a leader in electric vehicles, autonomous driving and connected cars with one of the world’s leading multimodal mobility operators. Together we are going to develop an advanced mobility system without a driver that will considerably improve existing public transport and on- demand services,” says Ogi Redzic, Director of the Alliance Renault-Nissan for connected vehicles and mobility services.
Initially, the research will focus on tests with the Renault ZOE (100% electric) on the Paris-Saclay site. Later, the on-demand delivery and public transport platform will be developed by Transdev.
In recent years, the Alliance Renault-Nissan has established several collaborations to accelerate the development of connectivity technologies and state-of-the-art mobility services. The Franco-Japanese alliance has recently signed an agreement with Microsoft to design a platform that will offer driving that is “more intuitive, intelligent and entertaining,” according to the manufacturers. A new collaboration with the Japanese telecommunications company DeNA is also expected soon, to develop driverless vehicles for commercial services.
“Now that the mobility services landscape keeps evolving, there is a unique opportunity to provide novel, connected mobility solutions to meet the new needs of our customers, in perfect alignment with our vision of a «zero emissions, zero accidents» society,” says Ogi Redzic.
