Mugen shows us a very special Ariel Atom

Mugen, as you well know, is the official tuner of Honda, and has just unveiled a very special Ariel Atom to the public. But why would the official tuner of Honda take an interest in the attractive Ariel model? Simply because of its engine, which, as we have discussed on occasion, the Atom features: a K20Z engine built by the Japanese company.
As you well know, especially if you are a fan of the work carried out by Honda, the engine known as the K20Z is famous for being one of the best naturally aspirated engines in the world, thanks to its 245 hp at 8,200 rpm. That figure falls somewhat short when compared with the 270 hp at 8,600 rpm and 255 Nm of peak torque at 6,200 rpm that Mugen has managed to extract.

This extra 25 hp has been achieved through substantial work incorporating new components such as camshafts, forged pistons, competition spark plugs, direct intake, a carbon fibre valve cover, revised engine compression and electronics, and even a new balanced flywheel. A truly impressive technical effort that gives the little Atom a specific output of 135 hp per litre.
On the other hand, the car’s dynamics have also been adjusted. For example, the suspension and chassis have been taken directly from the Atom V8 race car. Additionally, new white magnesium wheels fitted with Yokohama AO48 tyres have been installed. Unfortunately, a project as sensational as the one you see on your screen will only be built as a limited series of 10 units.
