Navdy

Technological gadgets keep finding their way into our cars, and some of the new ones have a futuristic touch that makes them very intriguing. As an example, we’d like to tell you about Navdy, a very particular hands-free device that works by projecting images in front of us, above the steering wheel and onto the windshield, so that we can use our phone without losing sight of the road.

Navdy has a 5.1-inch screen and a small, high-quality projector to display images. In front of us we can see, for example, GPS navigation, information about incoming calls or notifications from our favourite apps such as Facebook, Twitter or WhatsApp.

The device can be controlled by voice or by gestures that are recognised by a camera, so we don’t need to touch it to do things like reply to a WhatsApp message or write a tweet. Not having to touch the device, and having all the information displayed in front of us, is what helps prevent us from getting distracted and taking our eyes off the road. Even so, there will always be a small distraction, so it should be used with common sense, reserving it for really important things and avoiding being distracted by trivia such as writing a WhatsApp message or tweet, which can surely wait.

Navdy will be compatible with Android and iOS and will go on sale in early 2015 at a price of 499 dollars, but a pre-order process is already open for those who want to buy it at a good discount, as it can be ordered for 299 dollars.

What do you think of this new gadget? We leave you a video so you can see more details of how it works.
