Electronic Arts and Ghost Games have finally announced the new instalment of the Need for Speed series, titled simply Need for Speed. It will be a reboot of the series, which has been in development since the studio finished its work on Need for Speed Rivals.

Although details are limited, the companies said the game will offer “deep customisation, based on authentic urban car culture, an open nighttime world, and an immersive narrative”. The game also promises an experience “rooted in authentic car culture, immersing players in the rich world of past, present and emerging urban car scene trends”.

In a statement, Ghost Games executive producer Marcus Nilsson said, “Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we are returning to greatness.” He continued, “we also wanted to carry on the series’ legacy, but we have drawn inspiration from many places.”

Another feature that sets this Need for Speed apart is the team’s attention to the player community, which has been the basis for many of the game’s innovations.

Marcus also wanted to go into the narrative a little more. “Need for Speed will have a defined narrative and story, in which our decisions will matter.” He added that it “will be very innovative and will let us do things that have never been seen in the series.”

For now we don’t know more details about this game that every car lover has played at some point, but what we do know is that it will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and will arrive later this year.
