New engine in the Audi A3 range with only 99 g/km of CO2

Audi has unveiled the new A3, which manages to get below the 100 g/km CO2 emissions barrier, the A3 TDIe. Furthermore, thanks to the 1.6 TDI engine with 105 CV of power, it brings fuel consumption down to around 3.8 litres/100 km.
Another change introduced by Audi is an improvement to the Start&Stop system, switching off the engine during stops and restarting automatically when the driver presses the clutch. Also noteworthy is the energy recovery system that recovers the energy that will be used during acceleration phases.
As for the gearbox, it is a five-speed manual, but it includes an improvement that extends the top gear by up to 7%. A gear-shift indicator on the instrument cluster helps the driver select the ideal gear, which helps reduce consumption. The bodywork has also been modified, lowering the height and adding new elements to the bodywork and underbody.

The new versions of the A3 range are powered by a 4-cylinder TDI engine with a maximum torque of 250 Nm between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. With this engine, the three-door A3 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 190 km/h. The A3 Sportback, for its part, reaches 100 km/h in 11.7 seconds. Finally, sales of the A3 1.6 TDI e will begin in 2010, with a starting price of EUR 23,380 and EUR 24,750 for the A3 Sportback.
