New Maserati Quattroporte 2014?

The new Maserati saloon leaks out at the patent office.

I’m in complete chaos. Recently, the first images of Maserati’s next saloon have reached the internet. Most sources claim it is the next generation of the Quattroporte, a model expected for 2014, but I have a different opinion.

Its shape seems smaller than what the Italians have accustomed us to, so I don’t rule out that it could be the new mid-size saloon from the trident brand. For now these are just assumptions. What we do know for certain is that the model on their computer screens will reach the market sooner or later; that much is sure.

The patent office reveals a model that will continue with the sporty finish we have come to expect. A four-door for enjoying every kind of occasion, combined with the beauty of Italian design: that is what a sports saloon is.

Under the bonnet of this saloon, rumours point to a choice of two very powerful engines. The entry level of the range would be a new supercharged V6 generating approximately 420 horsepower, while the more powerful engine would be a V8 with 520 horsepower. All this power would be sent to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and it is rumoured that an all-wheel-drive system would be available as an option. In this way the FIAT group would recoup the costs of the Ferrari FF.
