New Opel Corsa GSI: more photos, more data, video… and price

From €21,500. That is the price in Spain of one of the sporty city cars that promises the most fun behind the wheel, the new Opel Corsa GSI.

We have already talked about the Opel Corsa GSI when the first images and some official data were revealed. Now, all we are missing is to drive it, because Opel has already revealed the price for the Spanish market, where this small sports car can already be bought. In addition, we can see it from every angle in a full image gallery. And also in action, in a video where the Opel Corsa GSI shows all its character at none other than the Nürburgring, precisely where its chassis was fine-tuned.

150 CV Turbo engine and OPC chassis for the Corsa GSI

Without leaving aside everything necessary to remain a usable car for everyday life, the Opel Corsa GSI lives up to its initials with an engine and a chassis tuning that make driving enjoyable and that hold their own even on the track.

The engine needs little introduction: the 1.4 Turbo petrol is already used in other models of the brand, and here it reaches 150 CV of power, with a maximum torque of 220 Nm. It is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, with close ratios to favour acceleration. These are its most relevant figures: 207 km/h top speed, 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, and a combined average consumption from 6.1 l/100 km.

As for the chassis, the OPC endorsement is a real guarantee of agile and effective handling. Optionally, the Corsa GSI can be fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels with 215/40-18 tyres. Both the exterior and interior design, without being overly busy, reveal that this is a very special car, heir to initials that have a long tradition at Opel, dating back to the Manta GSI and Kadett GSI with the 115 CV 1.8 engine of the mid-1980s. The new Corsa GSI has the same power as the legendary Opel Kadett 2.0 16V of 1988, an engine that was also offered in the first Astra GSI.

As for the small city car, the first generation of the Corsa GSI went on sale in 1988, with a 100 CV engine. Until the arrival of this new version, the last Corsa GSI was presented in 2012.

With a starting price from €21,500, the new Opel Corsa GSI has as its main rivals the Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI 150 CV FR (cheaper, from €19,690), or the Ford Fiesta ST, which starts at €20,652 and offers 200 CV.
