The German automaker’s new compact is expected to reach showrooms at the end of next year as a 2011 model, and thanks to various online sources we have the chance to take a first look at it.

Although the camouflage doesn’t reveal many details, the design of the front grille and the shape of the headlights can clearly be seen, and these will appear on the three- and five-door versions. However, the convertible and MPV variants and will probably receive some changes.

Customers will also have a wide range of engines ranging from 1.2L to 1.6L, and the most powerful engine, delivering approximately 200 CV, will be available only on the “S” variant. Meanwhile, rumours suggest that a hybrid model could be introduced a few months later.

Audi has confirmed that it will invest 200 million euros in its Brussels plant to boost production of the new A1, and the manufacturer plans to build around 120,000 units a year.

There is even a possibility of seeing the compact in North America, essentially due to government incentives and the well-known crisis that has reduced the purchasing power of many families.
