Nissan has announced today that across Europe it has sold 607,000 vehicles, which is almost 100,000 more units than the previous year, and all of this thanks to a spectacular end to the financial year and an especially good month of March.

The 85,085 sold last month meant that the Japanese brand reached a 4% market share in Europe, which has allowed it to reach a total market figure over the last year of 3.4%, the best result for the brand on the old continent since 1994.

By model, the key lay in the sales of the Nissan Qashqai, of which nearly 250,000 units were sold in 2010, 19% more than the previous year. Sales of the Juke have also been fundamental in achieving these figures, with nearly 51,000 units sold since its launch in September, and all of this, together with sales of the Murano, means that Nissan dominates a quarter of the crossover market in Europe.

But the good news for Nissan was the significant growth in the commercial vehicle segment in 2010, with sales of 54,000 units, 28.5% more than in 2009.

Among the markets where Nissan dominates, Russia stands out, where Nissan is one of the best-selling foreign brands and where sales in this country grew an extraordinary 85% to reach 102,000 units, making Russia the largest Nissan market in Europe.

The United Kingdom was the second largest market for Nissan in 2010 with more than 101,000 cars sold, while France ended the year with 66,500 units sold, 12,000 more than in 2009.
