Nissan confirms there will be a Qashqai Nismo

Do you remember the Nissan Juke Nismo? You surely do, as it has been one of the most interesting vehicles in that segment unveiled by the Japanese brand. But the news doesn’t stop there, as Nismo has also turned its attention to the Qashqai; a Nismo version of the Qashqai has reportedly already been confirmed by Nissan.

For those who need something roomier than the Juke, Nissan is preparing the Qashqai Nismo, which would arrive in the winter of 2014. To be more specific, it will feature sporty handling, a specific body kit with red detailing, suspension modifications, improved maneuverability for spirited driving and power of around 212 horsepower.

Interestingly, the Qashqai Nismo will be more powerful than the Juke Nismo, which stays at 200 horsepower. The engine will be similar to that of the Juke, as confirmed by Andy Palmer, Global Product Chief of Nissan, but with the necessary modifications to deliver more power. Palmer also assured that the focus won’t be limited to greater power, as equal attention will be paid to improving the vehicle’s dynamic capabilities.

Apparently there won’t be multiple variants of the Qashqai Nismo; it will be sold in a single model, at a price not yet known. Figures of around €35,000 in Europe are being discussed, perhaps less. At that price, the Qashqai will cease to be a family SUV and become one of the few high-performance SUVs at a fairly affordable price.
