Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary: special edition as a birthday gift

The Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary is a creation of the brand’s Australian division to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GT-R family.

The Nissan GT-R was born in 2007 as the spearhead of Japan’s offensive in the supercar segment. When it went on sale, nobody believed this car could stand up to the likes of the Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini that reigned at the time.

However, not only did it stand up to them, it also outperformed them. Now, after 12 years, it has become a thoroughly established supercar, which has earned it the nickname “Godzilla”. Furthermore, this monster of the circuits is not giving up, since Nismo has subjected the Nissan GT-R to a series of upgrades to face 2020.

However, it has been 50 years since the first offspring of the GT-R family was born, so Nissan Australia has felt that it is the ideal moment to pay it a tribute.

Three versions and one special edition: the Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary

To commemorate the five decades of history of the GT-R family, Australian fans of the saga will be able to enjoy three editions: the Nissan GT-R Premium, the Nissan GT-R Premium Luxury and the Nissan GT-R Track Edition.

The main differences are new-design fog lamps, new exhaust tail pipes and a slight restyling of the wheels, which this time have been lightened to become the lightest the model has ever had in its range.

In addition, Nissan Australia has created an ultra-special model to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this renowned saga. This model is based on the Nissan GT-R Premium Luxury, so it is a supercar of pedigree with all the comforts and luxuries of a car from the most premium segment.

The new Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary can be configured in three different body colours. The most eye-catching and emblematic is the one the brand calls “Bayside Blue”, a new shade that inherits the glorious heritage of the Nissan competition cars throughout the brand’s history. It also features a new interior screen and several badges indicating that this is a 50th anniversary model.

Stephen Lester, Managing Director of Nissan Australia, stated: “Few cars have as much recognition and are as adored as the Nissan GT-R, so every time we present an update, everyone finds out. The overall changes to the Nissan GT-R 2020 have been very significant in improving performance and driving dynamics. Meanwhile, the special edition Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary arrives to pay tribute to its family in style.”
