Nissan halts development of the Qashqai EV and prepares the elimination of 11 models

It seems that the situation at Nissan is quite critical, and the company’s management is making fairly drastic decisions. Among them, it has been decided to cancel, at least for now, the Nissan Qashqai EV project. The electric version was in the development phase, although the Reuters agency has reported that this project was paused in 2025 and has now been definitively cancelled this year.

Apparently, the high development costs of this model are what caused the interruption of its development. However, a return to it is not ruled out, although if this happens, it will be in the 2030s. According to the agency’s reports, Nissan has not provided any data on the status of the vehicle. It has, however, confirmed that the company remains involved in the development of electric models, although it will do so in a more restrained way.

One of the reasons being considered for this cancellation, at least temporarily, is the lack of demand for new models of these characteristics in the European market, which is the main target of this model. Nevertheless, there are several electric models planned for the coming years.

Among the electric models set to arrive is a Juke EV, as well as other models called Skyline and Xterra. But the axe will also fall on other models, which will be withdrawn from the market. In total, eleven models will disappear, with the aim of simplifying the brand’s range.

For the moment, not much more is known, although over the coming months we will learn more about the plans of Nissan for the coming years, and we will find out which models will disappear, which will remain and which new ones will appear to replace those that will no longer be on sale. Profound changes are coming at Nissan and they will have repercussions.
