Nissan tests a paint that repels dirt
Nissan is working on a hydrophobic paint that creates a protective layer capable of repelling water, oils or mud splashes. For the moment it is in the testing phase, but in the future it could be a configuration option when buying our cars.

This week Nissan has shown us the first results of a research project they are working on, which will be especially useful for those who like to keep their car spotless at all times. It involves a new paint that has the ability to repel dirt, and which in the future could be an ‘extra’ we could add when buying our car.
The technology we are talking about is known as Ultra-Ever Dry®, and in the video accompanying this article you can see how it works on a Nissan Note. Specifically, it is a hydrophobic paint that creates a protective air layer over the paint of our car, which serves to repel water, oils and the typical mud splashes that dirty the bodywork.
For the moment this technology is in the testing phase, and the engineers at the Nissan Europe Technical Centre will test it over the coming months under various usage conditions. According to Nissan information, it is not planned to be incorporated into production cars in the short term, but in the future it could be added among the vehicle’s personalisation options.
Will we be able to say goodbye to having to wash the car? It seems we are heading that way, judging by the video Nissan has shared:
