As it already did with Volkswagen designing the GTI Roadster in the virtual environment and then unveiling it for the first time at the Wörthersee, it is now Nissan, also in collaboration with Sony for its PlayStation console, which is designing a new concept for the anniversary of the legendary Gran Turismo game.

The new supercar from Nissan began as a project in which the designers gave free rein to their imagination. The idea of creating a car as if it were for each team member’s private garage was a real challenge.

The work was carried out by young designers from the brand in Europe, specifically in London, where the Nissan Design Centre is located. The project’s potential was such that it led to the participation of engineers from the Technical Centre in Japan, located in Atsugi.

The Nissan Vision 2020 Gran Turismo Concept is the result of the synergy between both centres. The final design is a genuinely futuristic supercar that can be presented as a “Concept Car” at any motor show.

Its concept is a 2+2 whose performance has not yet been revealed. Its shapes highlight the careful aerodynamic work of the design. Large air intakes dominate the front so that air flows around and through the car with barely any resistance. A large rear wing and diffuser will keep it planted to the ground. The glazing of the cabin resembles that of a combat fighter jet.

In fact, the Japanese brand considers this car’s concept a vision of the future to follow for possible sports cars of its own that may be seen on the streets.

For enthusiasts of the game Gran Turismo 6, it will be available from July, when it can be downloaded and enjoyed driving on the virtual circuits. Other Nissan models such as the Skyline or the GT-R have been part of the saga. It is also the brand with the greatest representation of cars within the legendary and famous franchise.

The Japanese manufacturer organises the “GT Academy” every year, a programme in which a video game player can become a real-life racing driver. Hence the close relationship between Nissan and the Gran Turismo game.

Nissan thus joins brands such as Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen and Mitsubishi in creating “Vision” supercars. Who will be next?
