Nissan Nissan did not present major novelties in Detroit, but announced at the press conference that it will present two budget models aimed exclusively at the North American market.

Both models will be based on the platform of the new Nissan Micra, which will replace the Versa, the smallest and most affordable vehicle the Japanese brand sells in the USA.

The new vehicles will be built in Mexico, for all of the Americas, in an attempt to save labour costs and keep the price as low as possible. Despite the Versa being one of the least equipped vehicles on the North American market, it remains a car that sells: even after a drop in 2009, it still sold nearly 7,000 cars in December.

The approximate price of the new Nissan Micra will be around 10,000 dollars, the same as the Versa currently costs, but on a much more modern platform. The move will not be an isolated effort by the brand to offer an economical car, since it plans to produce at least one million of these cars a year.
