Only spy photos and details of the upcoming updates to the Hyundai ix35 and Elantra have appeared so far, but it has already been revealed that we will see them next year. The managing director of Hyundai’s American division, Dave Zuchowski, confirmed to Edmunds that their respective launches will take place in 2015 in an interview conducted last week.

Zuchowski stated regarding the new ix35 that the crossover will adopt a more athletic and robust design than the current one, with a more aggressive expression and the appearance of being larger than it actually is. Hyundai is working to improve the steering and handling of the car, in addition to equipping it with new technologies as found on the more expensive models.

As for the Elantra, the executive describes its look as “more Audi”, “more European“. Zuchowski added that it will give the impression of being a model from a higher segment, almost bordering on premium, although the latter should be taken with a pinch of salt until confirmed in person.

In 2017 Hyundai will finally present its bid to compete in the West against the crossovers of the segment B. Designed to compete with the Nissan Juke and company, Zuchowski denied that it will look like a scaled-down version of the ix35, stating instead that it will have its own identity. Hyundai made clear months ago that this crossover will be different from the ix25 for the Asian market, but the same was also thought about the new i20 and, in the end, the city car ended up being almost identical to the version reserved for Eastern countries.
