One million Volvo equipped with City Safety

The Swedish manufacturer has just announced that there are now more than one million Volvo on the road worldwide equipped with the City Safety active safety system. This is therefore a cause for celebration for one of the brands that places the greatest emphasis on safety.
The City Safety active system has reached so many vehicles in a very short time, thanks to the rapid expansion of this technology across its entire range. Currently, from the V40 to the S60, passing through the XC60, all of them fit this system, which has surely helped avoid or mitigate many collisions.
Let us recall that the City Safety system consists of a laser emitter at the top of the windscreen, at mirror height, which projects a beam up to 6 metres in front of the vehicle. In this way, it monitors for the presence of any obstacle or unforeseen event in front of the car. If the sensor detects a dangerous situation, and depending on the speed at which the car is travelling, it will act accordingly.

Thus, if an imminent collision is detected, the system takes control and applies the brakes so that, provided the relative speed between the two vehicles is below 35 km/h, it reduces speed to avoid the accident. This system also works with motorcyclists and pedestrians. City Safety is active up to 50 km/h, and if the speed between the two parties is too high, it will brake to minimise material damage.
Several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of this gadget, such as that of the Swedish road safety agency, which stated that Volvo equipped with this system were involved in 65% fewer accidents.
