Opel debuts the new generation 1.6 CDTI ECOTEC in the Zafira Tourer

Opel Corsa 2011

The new generation of diesel engines from Opel will make its debut at the next Geneva Motor Show, and the first model to receive it is the Zafira Tourer. This 1.6 CDTI ECOTEC engine meets Euro 6 emissions standards thanks to selective catalytic reduction technology.

As we reported almost a month ago, the new 1.6 CDTI ECOTEC engine features an aluminium block and closed-loop combustion control. It has also been designed to replace the current 1.7-litre engines and the less powerful versions of the 2.0-litre range.

As for the specific Opel Zafira Tourer fitted with this engine, it produces 136 CV and 320 Nm of torque. Combined-cycle fuel consumption is just 4.1 l/100 km, with emissions of 109 g of CO2 per km. These figures place the Zafira Tourer among the most efficient compact MPVs on the market. The Opel Zafira Tourer with this engine will go on sale later this year, once it is presented in three weeks’ time.
