Piaggio Ape Calessino for almost €20,000

Piaggio launches in Spain at a price of €19,900 the Piaggio Ape Calessino, a three-wheeled model that has more than 50 years of history and has been updated and modernised to be driven on our roads. Apart from collectors or businesses in tourism of a certain luxury in some areas, I can’t think of anyone choosing to buy this vehicle at this price.
One of the novelties this new version of the Ape Calessino features is that it has no conventional engine, but an electric one capable of producing 24 horsepower at 2,225 rpm, powered by lithium batteries. Zero emissions and relatively low consumption, and quick to recharge: with 4 hours of charging you would achieve a range of 75 km. The life cycle of this battery is estimated at around 15 years or 60,000 kilometres.
The Ape Calessino has a vintage design, with the bodywork in white, with chrome details on the front and a wooden strip of teak on the rear sides, inspired by those on yachts. The roof is made of blue canvas, waterproof and washable, mounted on a stainless steel frame, with white canvas and transparent plastic on the upper part of the doors.
A nice alternative to find, as in the 50s, in the tourist areas of Italy when Hollywood stars went to spend their summers on that Riviera. Expensive, but a nice alternative. Undoubtedly Piaggio will have studied the market well to set such a price; we don’t think they are newcomers to these matters.
