Piëch Mark Zero Concept, an electric sports car that Porsche eyes warily
Anton Piëch, one of the youngest members of the Porsche family, presents his own electric sports car, the Piëch Mark Zero Concept
The Piëch surname may go unnoticed by most people, but those who enjoy the history of the automotive world will have already realised that it is linked to one of the most renowned brands in the world: Porsche.
Indeed, the driving force behind the Piëch Mark Zero Concept is Anton Piëch, none other than the son of Ferdinand Piëch and great-grandson of Ferdinand Porsche. An entrepreneur who, at 44 years old, has chosen to stay out of Porsche and the Volkswagen Group, where his father served as CEO for more than a decade, in order to follow in the footsteps of his illustrious relatives by launching his own sports vehicles through his brand, Piëch Automotive.
Just as Ferdinand Porsche once did with the history of the Porsche 911, Anton Piëch seems to rebel against the canons of the industry and, with his prototype, aims to take the first step towards the car of his dreams. Rather than drawing on the foundations of the past to build a future, his Piëch Mark Zero Concept will be a retro-tinged electric sports car.
Piëch Mark Zero Concept, the sports car of the future outside Porsche
This sports car has been officially presented as one of the most eye-catching novelties at the Geneva Motor Show. Thanks to its commitment to classic, simple lines, free of complications, the Piëch Mark Zero Concept displays a meticulously sculpted form with considerable appeal. Perhaps it is precisely this simplicity that makes it so elegant and alluring.
But where the Piëch Mark Zero Concept may strike hardest is in its technology as an electric car. This vehicle features revolutionary batteries capable of very fast charging and discharging.
According to Piëch Automotive, its sports car charges 80% in 4:40 minutes of its energy storage capacity using its charger. Furthermore, these batteries produce almost no heat, so they can be cooled without the need for heavy or specific equipment, as is the case with current electric cars. The batteries of the Piëch Mark Zero Concept are cooled by the ambient air itself.
The range of the Piëch Mark Zero Concept has been measured according to the WLTP cycle. Its figures put the distance it can cover on a single full charge of its electric battery pack at up to 500 km. Batteries which, according to its creator, will receive improvements as the technology advances.
Batteries direct the energy to each of the three electric motors that the Piëch Mark Zero Concept features: one for each wheel of the rear axle and another for the front axle. Each of them has a power output of 150 kW, that is, 450 in total, equivalent to 611 CV. A car that, in total, weighs 1,800 kg.
Piëch Automotive favours a modular layout and shows its interest in marketing and selling its electric drivetrain technology, as displayed in this Piëch Mark Zero Concept, to those brands that are interested, which we hope will be more than just a prototype.
