El GP de Alemania es una de las carreras fetiche de Márquez

Germany is set to be the centre of motorsport news over the next two weeks. First, because the German Grand Prix of motorcycle racing takes place. And then, straight after, the German Formula 1 Grand Prix will be held.

But let’s get to the point and start at the beginning, with the motorcycle Grand Prix taking place this weekend, on Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July. And while the cars race at Hockenheim, the motorbikes have been racing at Sachsenring since 1998, three years after this circuit was inaugurated. It is located in the state of Saxony (the name translates into Spanish as precisely that) and is 3,760 kilometres long.

Sachsenring is currently Márquez territory Honda, and one only has to look at the past to confirm this statement. Since 2010 onwards, the victory has gone to one of the riders who currently make up the Repsol Honda team: Dani Pedrosa in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and Marc Márquez in the remaining years. In fact, Márquez’s record at the German circuit is brutal because since 2010 onwards he has always won the race: that year in Moto3, the next two in Moto2, and the rest in MotoGP, where he has always won.

Will we be witnessing the first time we see Márquez not win at Sachsenring? That is the big question, and the great challenge for the rest of the riders in the premier class of motorcycle racing, especially those who want to challenge the Lleida-born rider for the world title. That will be, without undervaluing Moto3 and Moto2, the main interest of this race weekend in Germany, the last one before the three-week summer break.
