The 2018 motorcycle World Championship faces the second round of the calendar on April 6, 7 and 8: the Argentina GP. After Andrea Dovizioso’s victory in Qatar in the first race of the year, the championship arrives at a circuit, the Autódromo Internacional de Termas de Río Hondo, where the Ducati rider Italian has never won, since Márquez (twice), Rossi and Viñales have shared the victories at the Argentine track since this Grand Prix has been held.

With the victory in the first GP of the season, Dovi emerged strengthened as the main alternative to Marc Márquez’s reign in the premier class of motorcycle racing. However, since this is, so to speak, just beginning, it is too early to talk about favourites, and we still have to wait and see what the other riders of Honda (Pedrosa) and Ducati (Lorenzo) are capable of, as well as the two official riders of the Yamaha team.

The Moto2 class arrives at this Argentina GP with the good taste left in Qatar by the duel between the Italians Bagnaia and Baldassarri, which was settled by just a few thousandths. But we must not forget that Álex Márquez was the rider with the best pace and would have fought for the victory had it not been for the mechanical problems he suffered. In principle, the battle for the top step of the podium at Río Hondo will be between these three men, although the class is shaping up to be very even, and at this stage many riders still have chances of being up front.

In the smallest class, Moto3, a duel between the Spaniards Jorge Martín and Arón Canet is most likely to be reignited. The two started the season as the main favourites for the title, and already in Qatar they demonstrated why such a claim was made, not forgetting Bastianini, who, without mistakes as at Losail, should be up there too. Of the three, only Jorge Martín knows what it is like to at least reach the podium at this Termas de Río Hondo circuit.
