The expansion of the PSA Group seems to know no end. Alongside the possible acquisition of the brands Opel and Proton by the French manufacturer, there is now a new agreement to promote shared mobility of its vehicles in North America.

From 1 April 2017, the PSA Group, together with TravelCar and the insurance company MAIF, will launch a vehicle rental offer between travellers at the airports of Los Angeles and San Francisco in the United States. These three companies aim to optimise the use of the current vehicle fleet. The goal is that cars do not stand idle and become an additional source of income for their owners.

TravelCar will offer three types of services to owners and/or travellers at the airports of Los Angeles and San Francisco. On the one hand, owners who allow their vehicles to be rented will have free parking at the airport. If the car is rented, the owner will be paid for it.

The platform will allow users who rent out their own car to receive money for it. There is also an offer for owners who do not wish to rent out their car: these users will be able to benefit from a lower parking rate. Finally, travellers who wish to have a vehicle at their destination will have access to a private individual’s car with a reduced rental; approximately 50% off compared with a traditional rental.

“With the support of the PSA Group and MAIF, TravelCar is entering a new stage of international expansion and setting out to conquer the American market. Our offer accompanies travellers throughout the entire journey: when leaving, we offer parking, and at the destination, we provide an economical and eco-responsible mobility solution,” says Ahmed Mhiri, Founder and CEO of TravelCar.

The service offered by TravelCar and backed by the PSA Group’s vehicles will be available only in the USA, at least for the time being. The North American country has more than 850 million passengers a year.

“We have announced our gradual arrival in the United States with the offer, initially, of mobility services together with our partners. We will roll out these services worldwide to meet the expectations of our customers. With TravelCar we begin this new stage today on the other side of the Atlantic,” says Grégoire Olivier, Director of Mobility Services at the PSA Group.
