Ranking: the best-value premium Chinese electric SUVs on the Spanish market

We analyse the premium Chinese electric SUVs that best combine performance, range and price in Spain. A technical ranking with LEPAS, Geely and EBRO as the protagonists of the new automotive order.

The Chinese arrival in Europe has stopped being a promise and become a consolidated reality. What, just three years ago, was seen as a low-cost invasion has evolved into something far more sophisticated: a new generation of premium Chinese electric SUVs that go head-to-head with the German benchmarks in finish, software and dynamics. Spain, a market traditionally cautious with emerging brands, has been receiving since 2024 a wave of models that force a rewrite of the comparison tables in the C and D segments.

In this ranking we analyse the most relevant crossovers and SUVs from the brands setting the pace: LEPAS, Geely and EBRO, cross-checked against verified technical data sheets and the manufacturer’s recommended retail prices (excluding current discounts, campaigns and aid).

Why Chinese SUVs have stopped being an alternative and become a reference

The narrative has changed. The Chinese brands landing in Spain do so with dedicated platforms, state-of-the-art LFP or NMC batteries, OTA software and finishes that have little to envy from European premium. The difference no longer lies in perceived quality, but in pricing strategy: offering 30-50% more equipment for the same money.

Geely, the conglomerate that owns Volvo, Polestar, Lotus and Smart, brings European know-how to its developments. LEPAS, a brand derived from the Chery group, pursues an aspirational design aimed at the premium urban customer. And EBRO, reborn under the Chinese industrial umbrella with production at the former Nissan plant in Barcelona, plays the card of national pride with Chinese-Spanish technology.

Ebro S700 664fb05b3aa0d

EBRO s700 PHEV — from approximately €37,700

The EBRO s700 PHEV is probably the most interesting case in the ranking. Produced in Zona Franca and carrying a plug-in hybrid badge, it combines 347 CV of combined power with 90 km of electric WLTP range. EBRO has understood that the Spanish market needs pragmatism: label 0 (CERO), homologated consumption of 0.8 L/100 km and a recommended price well below any equivalent German PHEV.

Power kW Power CV Top speed Range Consumption Label Fuel
255 kW 347 CV 180 km/h 90 km WLTP electric 0.8 L/100 km CERO PHEV petrol/plug-in

The Luxury trim adds a 360° camera, adaptive suspension and an interior with materials that surprise with their feel. EBRO has achieved in a few months what many brands fail to achieve in years: real presence in national dealerships.

Geely Ex5 Europe 00009

Geely EX5 — from approximately €35,000

The Geely EX5 is the electric SUV with which the parent brand officially lands in Spain. Dedicated GEA platform, 60.2 kWh LFP battery and homologated range close to 430 km WLTP. Geely is betting heavily on software: 15.4″ central screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor and native voice assistant.

Power kW Power CV Top speed Range Consumption Label Fuel
160 kW 218 CV 175 km/h ≈430 km WLTP ≈15.5 kWh/100 km CERO Electric

Geely has the advantage of industrial muscle: synergies with Volvo in passive safety, with Polestar in dynamics and with Lynk&Co in electronic architecture. The EX5 inherits that maturity.

7. Lepas L8 (2)

LEPAS L8 — from approximately €38,000

LEPAS is the most aspirational bet of the Chery group for the European market. The LEPAS L8 is positioned as a mid-large electric SUV with a clear focus on the urban customer seeking aesthetic differentiation. Design led by a European team, full-LED matrix lighting and a cabin that resembles a lounge more than a car.

Power kW Power CV Top speed Range Consumption Label Fuel
180 kW 245 CV 180 km/h ≈450 km WLTP ≈16 kWh/100 km CERO Electric

LEPAS arrives with the ambition of a pure premium brand: a carefully curated dealer network, a customer experience oriented towards luxury retail and a positioning that sets it apart from its Omoda and Jaecoo siblings within the same corporate umbrella.

Ebro S400 102

EBRO s400 HEV Excellence — from approximately €29,000

For those who don’t want to make the leap to plug-in but are looking for efficiency, the EBRO s400 HEV offers a 211 CV full hybrid with homologated consumption of 5.3 L/100 km. It is the logical entry point into the EBRO universe and, with an ECO label, a very reasonable option for mixed use.

Power kW Power CV Top speed Range Consumption Label Fuel
155 kW 211 CV 150 km/h ≈900 km total 5.3 L/100 km ECO Petrol/electric hybrid

Conclusion: the new premium map

What LEPAS contributes in image, Geely contributes in industrial maturity and EBRO in proximity and attractive financing. The three brands show that the premium segment is no longer defined by geographic origin, but by technological capability and value proposition. In this sense, Spain is one of the most interesting testing grounds on the continent.

Frequently asked questions

Do premium Chinese electric SUVs come with the same warranty as European ones?
Yes. Geely, LEPAS and EBRO offer vehicle warranties of 5 to 7 years and battery warranties of up to 8 years or 160,000 km, on a par with or better than traditional European brands.

Which Chinese brand has the best after-sales network in Spain?
EBRO, thanks to its national production in Barcelona, has a rapidly expanding network. Geely relies on the already established infrastructure of Volvo and other group subsidiaries, which allows it to offer solid coverage from launch.

Is a Chinese PHEV worth it compared with a pure electric?
It depends on use. For drivers with daily urban journeys and occasional long trips, a PHEV such as the EBRO s700 offers flexibility. If home charging is feasible and journeys are mainly regional, a pure electric such as the Geely EX5 or the LEPAS L8 is more efficient.

Do the prices include the MOVES Plan or discounts?
No. The prices mentioned are manufacturer’s recommended retail prices without dealer discounts, one-off commercial campaigns or purchase aid such as the MOVES III Plan, which can significantly reduce the final outlay.
