Recall notice for the RX 400h in Spain

The Spanish subsidiary of the luxury brand of Toyota has just announced a recall in Spain for the hybrid variant of the second generation of its crossover. Specifically, it affects models manufactured between 2004 and 2006, which in our country would be some 935 cars and which represent 3.8% of the total cars the brand has sold in this market.

The problem affecting the RX 400h lies inside the Intelligent Power Module, a component of the inverter system made up of a series of transistors whose soldering, if carried out incorrectly, can cause problems. These parts can become seriously affected by heat dissipated when a high-intensity current flows while the engine is running at high revs.

The consequences of these transistors malfunctioning include the activation of the car’s safety mode, which limits the power available while driving. Furthermore, when this happens, a warning is simultaneously given through a series of warning lights on the dashboard, which would confirm that this is another case.

This has been identified as the cause related to 37 other failures of this product in Europe. What Lexus will do with the units it is going to inspect is verify whether the inverter system has a serial number affected by the mentioned defect and, if so, replace it with a new one. Of course, all of this will be carried out at no additional cost.
