Recall of the Kadjar for a serious fault in the safety system

Renault, as one of the European manufacturers with the widest continental distribution and, in Spain, with growing popularity in the affordable SUV segment, is now putting the Renault Kadjar in quarantine due to a fault in the locking system of its rear doors.

According to the warning we are reporting on, a defect has been detected in the child lock mechanism of some units manufactured between 29 June 2015 and 2 March 2018 of the crossover, which, it should be said, is built at the Palencia plant of the French group. The defect allows, in principle, a minor to open the rear doors unintentionally.

From the Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products, RAPEX, the European Commission warns of a problem whereby, although the doors appear to have the interior child lock of the Renault Kadjar activated, which prevents, for example, children travelling in the rear seats from opening them, this safety device does not perform that function, leaving the doors free to be opened at any time simply by pulling the handle of the crossover.

Accordingly, the 2015–2018 Kadjar recall from France has been classified as serious due to the risk of injury, given the importance of this system which, if it fails, may allow the rear doors to be opened, leaving their operation at the mercy of the occupants of the rear seats, even while the vehicle is in motion.
