Red Dot Design Award for the GT RIDE app by Kia

The “Red Dot Design Award” is one of the most prestigious design competitions, rewarding high-quality design since 1954. Its quality seal is divided into three categories: “Product Design”, “Communication Design” and “Concept and Prototype Design”.

This year 7,096 products were evaluated against nine criteria. Some of them are: degree of innovation, clarity of functionality, formal quality and sustainability. Of all the products submitted, only 101 were awarded the “Best of the Best” prize.

Among these winners was the GT RIDE app by Kia for Smartphone, which received the prestigious Red Dot “Best of the Best” design award in the Communication Design category.

It is a free car racing app available for both Apple and Android devices. It allows users to design their own circuits by moving their Smartphone through the air. Motion sensors play an important role here, since these movements draw the track following the route the user traces.

Players can race on their own circuits within the GT RIDE app using a Kia pro_cee´d GT. The different tracks created can be shared with friends via Facebook, as a challenge to set their own records. It is a way to interact and have fun by challenging each other to beat the track records.

The GT RIDE app was developed by LA RED and Artificial Rome together with Kia Motors Europe. It uses high-quality graphics to show details such as the asphalt being driven on, the changing sky as a backdrop and a spectacular pro_cee´d GT, which was also awarded the Red Dot “Best of the Best” distinction in 2013 in the “Product Design” category.

Since December 2013, when the app became available on Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store, it has been downloaded by more than 160,000 people who already enjoy it.
