Remember this name "Lac Hong": the luxury brand of the Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast
The Lac Hong 800 S, 900 S and 900 LX make up the extreme luxury electric vehicle range of the new Vietnamese brand.
VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle brand owned by VinGroup, has faced numerous challenges since its launch. Although VinGroup dominates sectors such as retail, shopping centres, real estate and even private education in its home country, VinFast’s push into the global automotive market has not achieved the success it expected.
With the aim of changing course, the company has recently announced a strategic restructuring, as a result of which its automotive offering is going to be divided into three distinct brands. The main one remains the VinFast VF series, aimed at the general consumer, with models such as the VF8 and VF9. The second will be the Green line, focused on vehicles for fleets and commercial use, such as the Herio Green and Minio Green. Finally, the third and most prominent is the creation of Lac Hong, the new extreme luxury brand of the Vietnamese manufacturer, designed to take on rivals of the calibre of Mercedes-Maybach.

The Lac Hong range includes the 900 LX, a model discreetly unveiled in mid-2025, and now adds two more models: the Lac Hong 800S – a large SUV – and the Lac Hong 900S – a luxury saloon. Both vehicles stand out for their richly Vietnamese design, which includes vertical grilles evoking bamboo, rear lights that join in the centre of the tailgate to represent the mythical Lạc bird, and details referencing elements such as Dong Son bronze drums or rice paddy fields.
Nobody expected this level of luxury from a Vietnamese brand
Exteriorly, the 900S impresses with its long, low proportions, monobloc-design alloy wheels and understated finishes that give it a sophisticated, elegant look. The 800S, although attractive, is somewhat more conventional. Inside, both offer an absolutely premium experience, with Nappa leather, genuine wood inserts, gold-plated details and, in the case of the 900S, options such as a partition with a large screen so that rear-seat passengers can enjoy multimedia content.

As for its technical specifications, VinFast has confirmed that both use a configuration with three electric motors, one on the front axle and two on the rear, capable of jointly delivering up to 460 kW. Beyond this information, the Vietnamese manufacturer has not yet disclosed other important specifications such as battery pack capacity, range or charging times.

With this move VinFast appears to aspire to compete directly with extreme luxury brands, not only such as Mercedes-Maybach, but also with other high-end Chinese brands such as Maextro or Denza, with a strong presence in several Asian markets. However, for the time being, the Lac Hong 800S and 900S will only be sold in Vietnam from 2027, with no confirmed plans for global expansion in the short term.
