Renault Twingo Electric Cars Urban
Renault begins phasing out the current generation of the electric Twingo in Europe
For now, it is still possible to get hold of an example of this electric city car only in France, and this situation does not look like it will last much longer.
Anticipating the market launch of the new generation of the electric Twingo, the French manufacturer has begun suspending sales of the current generation of this city car in some European countries. This is the case in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where customers who want one for their urban journeys will have to opt instead for the all-electric new Renault 5 E-TECH, a slightly larger vehicle with a higher price.
If everything goes according to plan, production of the new Renault Twingo electric will start in 2026 at Revoz, the Slovenian subsidiary of Renault, located in Novo Mesto. The end of sales of the current electric Twingo therefore means that fans of this city car will have to wait more than a year to get hold of a unit of the new generation, which is still to come.

According to Renault, the Twingo Electric was discontinued last spring, at the end of its life cycle. The end of sales of this model is apparently due to the new European Union safety regulations, known as GSR II, and to changes in the French manufacturer’s product range.
What is to come
The French manufacturer has quite ambitious plans for the new-generation electric Twingo, of which it expects to produce 150,000 units a year. This new generation of one of the most popular models in Renault’s line-up over the last few decades will not only recover elements of the original design, but will also be significantly more affordable, with a price below 20,000 euros.

Finally, it should be pointed out that Renault still sells the current electric Twingo today in its home market, France, where this model can still be found on the brand’s configurator for the French market. However, the company itself has already confirmed that its availability in that market will be temporary, until the existing stock of units of this model runs out, since, as they explain, the current generation of the Twingo does not meet the requirements set by the GSR II regulations in force in the European Union.
