CATL's new platform will debut in the electric version of the Neta S Kombi

The first model based on CATL’s new CIIC platform, from the popular battery cell manufacturer, will be the 800-volt electric version of the Neta S Kombi. Some recent reports had already anticipated that Chinese automaker Neta would be one of the first to adopt this new platform, and now it has finally been confirmed.

Just a few days ago, it is already possible to place an order in the Chinese market for the EREV (extended-range electric) version of the Neta S Kombi. This version features a 1.5-litre combustion engine producing 70 kW, paired with another motor of 200 kW. The battery pack it integrates has a capacity of 43.88 kWh, with which, according to the manufacturer, it is possible to cover up to 300 km in purely electric mode without the intervention of the combustion engine.

The fully electric version of the Neta S will not, however, be based on the company’s own Shanhai 2.0 platform, but on the aforementioned CIIC developed by CATL. According to the latter, its new CIIC platform integrates the battery packs, electric motors and other components as a complete sub-structure, thereby improving the efficiency and performance of the whole system.

Additionally, some reports published by Chinese media indicate that this chassis will also incorporate braking, steering and power electronics systems, so it can be said that it forms all the main elements of an electric vehicle.

Everything has an explanation

Finally, it should be noted that it is no surprise that Neta is one of the first automakers to adopt CATL’s new CIIC platform. At the beginning of 2023, Neta and CATL signed a cooperation agreement for the development of this platform and, at that time, it was mentioned that this chassis would achieve an unprecedented level of integration, including the powertrain, braking system, steering and thermal management.

Neta will therefore be responsible for developing mainly the body of the vehicle, independently of the sub-structure. This will have helped significantly reduce the project’s execution time and total costs.
