Renault confirms its expansion into India

The reality of the emerging markets of India and China is not being ignored by the automotive sector. Aware that in Europe there is a struggle for a common market of 800 million people, in India there are 1 billion inhabitants who, little by little, are increasingly able to enjoy a higher standard of living and, consequently, to buy vehicles.
Thus, with the prospects of a growing market, Renault confirmed at a press conference at the AutoExpo 2010 in New Delhi that its plans include launching several models within 18 and 24 months: that is, in less than 2 years they intend to have a strong commercial presence in India. Within 48 months they plan to have most of their fleet being sold in that country.
The cars on sale will cover the entire range, including a Crossover, small and manoeuvrable cars and the company’s luxury range . It will be a mix of current Renault models and cars manufactured as a result of the shared platforms with the alliance between Renault and Nissan, the fourth largest in the automotive sector.
Taking advantage of the buzz from the show, they have presented the Twizy, a two-seater electric car that we have already discussed at length here at HighMotor. With globalisation, these companies’ ability to make profits in developing markets with enormous potential is at its peak: with mature technology, low manufacturing costs and the renown and prestige they enjoy, the move towards India seems sensible.
