Renault Espace F1, a Formula 1 in disguise

While browsing YouTube I came across this concept of Renault presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1994. If you’ve watched the video you’ll have noticed that it is a Formula 1 car in disguise as a Renault Espace, since the way it starts and its characteristic sound give it away.

Built in collaboration with Matra, the Espace F1 houses the gearbox and the V10 with around 800 horsepower that the Williams-Renault cars of the era used, and it weighs 1,300 kg. All of this lets it accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 310 km/h. Some people at Matra claimed that this missile could accelerate to 270 km/h and come to a stop again within 600 m. Considering all this, the Espace F1 would run rings around several current sports cars.

After the jump you have a gallery with a few photos of the Espace F1.
