If the Nissan Leaf has been a sales success for Nissan, Renault cannot say the same about the Fluence ZE. Following the closure of the Better Place project, Renault has decided to halt production of the Fluence ZE on its production line in Turkey.

Better Place was the main customer for this electric model, which conformed to the standard imposed by the Israeli industrial group, of replaceable batteries. The French brand built one version with a replaceable battery and another with a rechargeable battery. Both versions have been cancelled by the brand, one because of the collapse of Better Place, the other because of the model’s weak sales.

The only version of this electric car that will remain in production, we will probably not see on European roads. It is the Samsung SM3 ZE, produced in Korea and actively supported by the Korean government, which seeks to expand the use of electric cars in the country.

Although Renault has not issued a press release on the matter, the model’s importer in Israel has announced that vehicles sold in that country will continue to enjoy official service from the brand with the diamond. The cancellation of the Fluence will be a harsh blow to Renault, which has invested millions of euros in the project, an exact amount that is not known but would exceed the losses of 800 million dollars reported by Better Place.
