Renault plans to build an SUV below the Captur

Several sources suggest that Renault is working on developing a new entry-level SUV for its range. Also based on the Clio, its length would not exceed 4 metres, offering an eye-catching and youthful look, together with small and economical engines.

It seems that Renault is not satisfied with the good results its recently launched Captur is delivering. That is why the French manufacturer plans an even smaller new model.

Based on the Kwid prototype we saw earlier this year, it would become the entry point to the French manufacturer’s SUV range.

Apparently, Renault is considering a compact model, measuring around 4 metres in length, also based on the Clio. However, it would still keep a considerable gap from its sibling, the Captur, whose length is about 4.2 metres.

With a very bold and youthful look, this small SUV would be aimed mainly at young people looking for their first SUV. In any case, it is a very agile vehicle for getting around today’s cities, something few SUVs can boast about nowadays.

As for the technical side, the “mini-SUV” from Renault would be powered by small diesel and petrol engines, with outputs that, in their most powerful versions, would be around 100 CV. There is also speculation about a possible new naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing around 70 CV, which would first be tested in the Renault Twingo.

If this model were launched, it would reach dealerships no earlier than 2016, with its price remaining about 20% below the equivalent Captur.
