Replica of the Alfa Romeo Carabo built by Sam Foose for sale

The replica of the Alfa Romeo Carabo, which Sam Foose built in 1972, is currently for sale at a price of $55,000.

The Alfa Romeo Carabo, one of the creations of Bertone in the 1960s, was built on the base of the Alfa-Romeo 33 Stradale, in an attempt to mass-produce a sports car that followed the guidelines of the concept cars of the era: a very low profile, with an enviable drag coefficient.

Most of these concepts only saw the light at motor shows, but the Carabo produced 18 examples with an unattainable price, one of the reasons it failed commercially. However, Bertone commissioned Sam Foose (the father of the famous Chip Foose) to build a targa version of the Carabo, which would carry the mechanicals of (no less than) a De Tomaso Pantera. The result is what you see here, and which is now for sale.

That means the 350 Cleveland V8 has replaced the more refined Alfa V8 of 1967, Bertone’s original engine, and that the bodywork was cloned by Foose with a new fiberglass structure at the time. The vehicle appears to have been well preserved over the years, so it is in optimal condition, and they are “only” asking $55,000 for it.
