Road safety awareness campaign in Chile... we should take an example from it

A few days ago I came across this striking video on Mangas Verdes, although it had already been online for nearly a year, and I thought it was worth sharing.

I won’t talk about the message because I think it is completely explicit, and I trust that everyone is clear about the vital role of the seat belt. What really deserves mention is the excellent road safety awareness campaign that the Carabineros de Chile are carrying out.

Honestly, the actions of the Spanish DGT are not as fruitful as they should be. They attribute the reduction in accident figures to many reasons of their own merit that I do not share, among them their advertising campaigns. They are tremendously costly, with a message that sometimes does not get through or, if it does, does so by annoying people; clearly, I think the Spanish authorities should take an example from initiatives like this one.

On the other hand, the fact that methods like this one have to be resorted to says a lot about poor road education and the general lack of awareness. Let’s hope it works.
