Rolls-Royce considers taking legal action against Geely

The news was highly anticipated , and the fact is that you cannot draw so blatantly on a model with such tradition and renown as the Rolls-Royce brand and expect nothing to happen.

The Goodwood manufacturer is considering taking legal action against Geely over what it sees as a copy of its Phantom model, which shares many design similarities (and not much else, since in materials, finish, engines… they bear no resemblance). What is more, the Geely GE could reach the market at a price of around £30,000 (nothing like the quarter of a million euros the Phantom costs).

What is not so likely is that Rolls-Royce will manage to achieve anything in China, because local laws are very lenient when it comes to copying, and Geely is a well-established domestic industry with great national impact. Where it may succeed, most likely, is in exports, where it could manage to stop them.
