Rolls-Royce returns with a special commission, once again on the Phantom, which they have named Orchid, with orchids as the source of inspiration

Rolls-Royce specializes in bringing its clients’ dreams to life on their vehicles through the work of its artisans and collaborations with various artists, creating wholly unique jewels on wheels with themes of every kind. One of the preferred models for these projects is the Phantom, which, incidentally, is getting ever closer to its renewal, and which once again becomes the star of a one-off.

On this occasion, Rolls-Royce has chosen to carry out this project drawing inspiration from the city of Singapore, using orchids as the main motif of this one-off, which is why the English marque has named it Phantom Orchid. Rolls-Royce was drawn to orchids because they are one of the most coveted ornamental plants, almost as coveted as its models, and also because they are a source of inspiration thanks to their resilience, beauty and strength.

To carry out this work, Rolls-Royce teamed up with Helen Amy Murray, a renowned artist who has transferred orchids onto the Rolls-Royce Phantom through painstaking work that has taken more than 200 hours, working side by side with six other people. She first produced a hand-drawn design, then refined it and turned it into a digital version, which was printed onto silk crepe satin before she finished the design by hand, adding extra layers that give a sense of 3D design. As you can see in the photographs, Murray’s work covers the dashboard, largely concealing it.

But it is not the only work carried out inside the Phantom Orchid, as Yohan Benchetrit, designer at Rolls-Royce, applied glass inlays to the fold-out tables of the rear seats on a piano black background. To finish the rest of the upholstery, a pattern in the colours Grace White, Havan and Smoke Grey is used, with contrasting stitching in Dark Olive, the door sills have been personalised, and the driver will be greeted with a welcome message created for the occasion.

On the exterior of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Orchid, personalisation work has also been carried out, using Arctic White paint as the base for the bodywork, to which a violet tint and small glass particles have been added to give a pearlescent appearance, but which also will change their hue depending on how light falls on the bodywork.
