The British brand will present the Geneva Motor Show the 102EX, a Phantom unit powered solely by electricity, of which it has yet to reveal any telling photos. Also known as the Phantom Experimental Electric, its purposes will be several, starting with acting as a “guinea pig” for this type of powertrain in a modern Rolls-Royce, and it will allow engineers to gather data on its performance.

Likewise, throughout this year it will go on a tour covering Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America, where various interested parties such as shareholders, customers or specialist media will be able to test this example and give their opinion to the manufacturer.

Of course, Rolls-Royce will pay close attention to the first impressions the public has in Geneva and, putting everything above together, will make decisions about the development of more models powered by alternative energies. And let’s not kid ourselves: sooner or later, the Rolls people will have to “step up”.

Addressing the most sceptical, the chief executive, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, stated in the announcement of the 102EX that, whatever energy is finally chosen, it will provide “a genuine experience Rolls-Royce“. Those who wish to start sharing their thoughts on an electric Rolls can do so on this website.
