Rolls-Royce will take the only unit of the Phantom 115th Anniversary to auction

Rolls-Royce will create a unique edition of the Phantom to celebrate its 115th anniversary. It will be sold at the prestigious car auction house RM Sotheby’s.

On 4 May 1904, Charles Rolls and Henry Royce met in a hotel in Manchester to bring to life the idea of launching a brand specialising in automobiles for the upper echelons of society. And they certainly did, since 115 years later, Rolls-Royce is the luxury car brand par excellence, with models in which the level of detail is practically unmatched by any other manufacturer.

Although its production capacity has grown considerably (in its first two years it produced 10 cars and in 2018 it delivered 4,107 vehicles), all of the brand’s models still retain that exclusive, ultra-luxurious aura that so appeals to every millionaire worth his salt.

To mark this anniversary, Rolls-Royce took advantage of the renovation of one of the most prestigious auction houses in the world, RM Sotheby’s, to announce that both companies will work together to create and auction a unique Rolls-Royce Phantom.

This unit, which will surely be the most exclusive of the exclusive, will be built over the course of next year and will be auctioned at RM Sotheby’s in autumn 2020. For now, neither party has given further details and, although improving on a Rolls-Royce Phantom seems mission impossible, we have no doubt that this Phantom will go a step further.

The main information we have is a teaser released by the brand. The only clue we can draw from it is that the chosen colour will be red. However, they have also decided to reveal a “handmade leather work of art” that will form part of the luxurious interior.

It is hard to imagine what Rolls-Royce is preparing for this special edition, but we have already seen some exclusive versions where the detailing is taken to the extreme. For example, the manufacturer has already added gold inlays to the dashboard of some of these exclusive editions, or presented upholstery stitched by true masters of the thread and needle.

A unit that will reach stratospheric prices at one of the most prestigious car auctions

The special mission of this Rolls-Royce Phantom will be to celebrate the 115 years of the brand’s history, so we assume it will also have some nod to this in its design. On other occasions, the brand has reworked the door frames, dashboard trim and even fitted special badges on its most special vehicles, so we assume this one will be no different.

The base price of a Rolls-Royce Phantom is not exactly cheap, as its rates start at 450,000 euros. However, the special editions the brand has made based on this model have often come close to the chilling figure of 650,000 euros. Well, in the case of the commemorative special edition we are talking about, it seems more than likely that it will reach one million euros.

It seems an unreachable figure for all mortals, yet it is more than certain that it will attract more than one suitor when it goes under the hammer. Buying cars this special is often a great investment, since as demonstrated by this auctioned Porsche 911 993, the appreciation of such unique pieces can end up doubling their original price after a few years.
