Seville allows electric vehicles to use the bus lane

In Seville, electric vehicles, whether motorcycles or cars, will be able to freely use the lanes reserved for buses and taxis in the city.

For study reasons, I was lucky enough to live almost a full year in Seville. Besides experiencing the heat of the Andalusian city and discovering a beautiful city centre, I found that it is one of the most outstanding cities when it comes to “green” mobility: it has a network of bicycle lanes and paths that can take you to any part of the city.

But the city on the Guadalquivir does not stop there: it now wants electric vehicles, whether cars or motorcycles, to be able to travel around the city with significant advantages over combustion vehicles: they will be able to drive in the lanes reserved for buses and taxis. These lanes extend for 16 kilometres across the city—there are plans to extend them to 26—and in some parts of the city, only they are allowed to circulate.

Thanks to this smart plan, the city council is encouraging the purchase and use of electric vehicles without spending a single euro. Now all that remains is to install many more charging points across the city, both in private car parks and in public areas. This is a major step that once again places Seville at the forefront of clean cities.
